Prevention of the development of esophageal stricture
Scientists investigated whether conditioned medium (CM) obtained from mesenchymal stem cells (the cell secretome) could prevent the development of esophageal stricture after endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD).Study was performed on pigs. After resection, the pigs were orally administered with CM gel. Formation of esophageal stricture was suppressed by inhibition of myofibroloasts activation after the site of injury was infiltrated by neutrophils and macrophages. The infilatration by neutrophils and macrophages was also diminished as well as the intensity of inflammation.
