In 2017 the companies Czech Gene Bank and Medical Centre of Prague fused and since then all services are secured through the Medical Centre of Prague.

STEM CELL COLLECTION AND PRESERVATION FROM CORD BLOOD

PREPARATION FOR STEM CELL COLLECTION

An expectant mother who decides to have cord blood collected does not have to prepare physically in any way. Before the birth she only completes a questionnaire about her health status, which is then sent to the Medical Centre of Prague. On the basis of this questionnaire a doctor from the Medical Centre of Prague will assess the expectant mother´s medical suitability for stem cell collection. After the contract is finalised, the relevant hospital where the collection of cord blood will take place is informed.

COLLECTION OF CORD BLOOD

The collection of cord blood is performed immediately after birth, including cases of birth by caesarean section. The collection is painless for both mother and baby and does not interfere in the process of childbirth.

CORD BLOOD TRANSPORT

A box with the collected cord blood is transported from the hospital to the laboratory for further processing. The Medical Centre of Prague provides fast and safe transport of cord blood 24 hours a day.

CORD BLOOD PROCESSING

After delivery to the laboratory, cord blood is processed and prepared for long-term storage.

The Medical Centre of Prague is the only company in the Czech Republic that uses the AXP AutoExpress system, which ensures the separation of stem cells from other blood elements. The separated stem cells may then be cryopreserved, according to their distinctive biological properties. The whole process takes place under strict aseptic conditions.

STEM CELL PRESERVATION

Properly executed cryopreservation of stem cells and their safe storage is crucial for their future therapeutic use. Therefore, in addition to the AXP AutoExpress system, we use a robotic system BioArchive® which ensures controlled cryopreservation, monitors and corrects the temperature and secures each sample individually.
